The purpose of nursing at all levels is to provide personal and professional care to all individuals from conception to death. The care given to any and all individuals within any walk of life is the sole purpose to get them to the highest level of independence and control of their own health. I feel that nurses bridge the gap between the doctors and the patient while always advocate for the patient and their families. Advanced practice nurses take this caring to the next level by taking on the primary care position.
Going into the Nursing Educator track means to teach the new generation of nurses to care for patients and their families in the most holistic environment as possible. Educators have a great deal of influence on giving students a solid foundation to enter the nursing profession. There is a need to encompass the whole human condition throughout each stage of a person’s life. This is the environment where new ideas and advances in nursing are introduced. It is the responsibility of the Advance Practice Nurses to educate the oncoming generation.
Advanced Practice Nurses take the time to understand the person as a whole and not just as a diagnosis. Doctors will frequently just treat the condition such as expensive medications, not think about distance to travel from appointment to appointment, negate a patients request for alternative therapies just to name a few. Nurses look at the patient’s financial and social status to find the best therapies for them. They also provide services that are usually at a lower cost and at a high quality of care. This makes them more accessible to the general population and those that have a low income and social status.
The growing community of Advanced Practice Nursing has the responsibility to make the profession known and increase the responsibility for the profession. There is a need for increased work within the community and at all age levels. Advanced Practice Nursing has the ability to work within the multidisciplinary environment in so many different situations that their ability to create a unified environment to improve the patients care.
